The Role of AI in Recruitment

An ever-growing number of recruiters are now using AI tools to streamline their hiring process. Recruiters can use AI at every stage in talent acquisition: from writing job descriptions to conducting interviews. However, efficiency should not replace human skill, and personal interactions will improve the candidate experience.

Benefits of AI in Recruitment and Hiring

Recruiters praise AI tools for their ability to quickly filter through large numbers of CVs and job applications.

AI can scan documents for key phrases and check if the candidate has the relevant experience and skills for the role. Then, it can submit a shortlist of applications to the recruiter for review. This speeds up the hiring process and means that candidates can get a response more promptly.

AI can also write job descriptions that accurately reflect the role. It can suggest a starting salary or experience requirements that are in keeping with industry standards.

Furthermore, recruiters can optimise interview scheduling with AI. Qualified candidates can book their own interview slots by accessing the recruiter’s calendar through AI tools. This saves time on email exchanges when booking interviews

Considerations when using AI for Recruitment

Some companies have begun to implement virtual AI interviews to filter candidates. However, many candidates have objected to AI interviews. They also limit the recruiter’s ability to cultivate relationships with candidates, see if they would be a good culture fit, and ask tailored questions.

AI tools have also evidenced having unconscious bias. Large language models (LLMs) identify patterns, and so when they are trained on biased data, they recreate it. This is crucial to consider when ensuring diversity and inclusion in your hiring process

Human review is invaluable for candidates who have valuable soft skills but don’t tick every box in experience. Whereas AI bots are rigid in their judgement, humans can consider the candidate's overall value, making exceptions if needed.

AI can make the recruitment process quicker and easier for both recruiters and candidates. But businesses risk losing valuable talent if they do not use human judgement alongside AI.
